Youth For Understanding USA (YFU USA) has extended its deadline for applications from high school students to study abroad in Japan in summer 2012; the new deadline is February 1. This year YFU is able to offer hundreds of scholarships for this program, and is looking especially for students who have studied Japanese language in school. Please let your students know about this opportunity.
Students on the YFU program live with carefully selected host families, learn and practice their Japanese language, and experience Japan firsthand for six weeks next summer.
Qualified applicants (in particular students who have studied Japanese) are needed for the following summer programs to Japan, some of which are sponsored in part by the Japanese government:
Japan-US Senate Youth Exchange
Japan-American Friendship Scholars
Okinawa Peace Scholarship
Please refer interested students to the YFU website at www.yfu-usa.org for more scholarship information and an on-line application. Admissions staff can be reached by telephone at 1.800.TEENAGE (1-800-833-6243) with questions about the scholarships or application process. The application deadline is February 1, 2012.
